Bangkok was nice, but Phuket is the tropical getaway we were expecting.
We got into Phuket last night really late. Our flight was delayed by 6 hours, but there are no complaints since we paid under $15 a person to get on it. Just a word to the wise, if there is a carry on weight limit, really follow that or you will be switching shoes around at the check in counter while a bunch of angry people wait behind you.
I booked us a beach bungalow for the first few days in Phuket. The Airbnb was very clear that it is an open air bungalow (meaning bugs can get in since there are gaps in the walls) and that it was not luxury. After sweating our butts off in Bangkok, I was kind of worried that we were not going to like this sweet little Airbnb. Boy was I wrong!
The bungalow is in a part of Phuket called Ban Laem Phan Wa. If you are looking at a map, we are on the east side of the farthest east bay in Phuket. It is quiet, quaint, and has such a nice tropical feel to it. Our bungalow is stilted in the trees. We have a beach front bungalow, so at night we can hear the waves. If we count walking down our stairs, it takes us about thirty seconds to walk to the beach front. There are some mosquitoes, but not nearly as many as we were prepared for. Our bungalow also has a mosquito net around the bed, which helps a lot.
Our balcony is surrounded by palm trees so all day we sat out there reading and journaling.
This morning we woke up early for vacation at 7:30! We rolled out of bed and found that our airbnb host, Bibi, had actually left us fruit in the fridge (she is the sweetest). We got a little comfier and unpacked some stuff and then Bibi came and introduced herself. She also brought us fresh mango that we got to enjoy later!

She was telling us a little bit about her life and how she ended up in Phuket. Without rambling about her (which I could do because she has a crazy life) here is a synopsis of her life:
She is originally from Germany. When she was probably in her twenties a friend and her decided to sail around from place to place and explore the world. They first went to Thailand. They hung out there before going to Malaysia. She said when they came back to Thailand her friend passed away. She tried to keep sailing but it was too hard for her to do alone. So she ended up staying in Thailand. She has been here for almost thirty years now! She said she just tried to make the best out of a bad situation.
She introduced us to her dog and one of the three cats she has. We were in need of some kitten pets, so we were thankful for that.
After she had left, we went up the road about two minutes walking and ate lunch at a used book store. It had the most beautiful views and served really yummy food. We both got smoothies and two huge meals for under $10. While that seems cheap, we both felt like we were splurging, since Thai food is so cheap.

We made our way down to the beach to go swimming after lunch and went and splashed around. The water was so warm and the sun was peaking through the clouds for the first time today.

We got to relax and spend some time in our bungalow just laying around and being lazy.
We ate dinner at the same place and on our way out the lady who owns the restaurant asked us
“See you tomorrow?”
Without hesitation we told her absolutely she would.
After dinner, we went and swam again. At that point it was raining, but we couldn’t even tell when we were in the water!
Now we spend tomorrow debating if we want to book this place for the rest of the week or move on to our next Airbnb! If you have any suggestions let me know!
