Old Town Chiang Mai

Writer's picture: Busy BranhamBusy Branham

Our Airbnb is luckily for us close enough to walk to Old Town - just not close enough to walk back after a long day in the Thailand heat.

Today we woke up and meandered our way to Old Town Chiang Mai. We stopped and got some lunch on the way and then found our way to the wall and the closest gate. Old Town Chiang Mai has a wall surrounding it that, according to the locals, is 1000+ years old. Since I want to believe that, I will not be fact checking It. We found a cafe to sit in first, as we always do, and got ourselves some green tea latte with some boba. Jon loves boba and I love the latte, so it is one of our favorite drinks to share.

After getting some some caffeine in our tummy, we wandered around to find a Thai massage. We knew that they were cheap in Chiang Mai, so we knew we had to get another one (yes this will be our third massage this month). We found a parlor that had AC - since Chiang Mai is the hottest and most humid place we have been so far - and relaxed for an hour. The person giving Jon his massage told him that his biceps were big enough that he should get into Thai boxing, so maybe a career change is in his future.

After we were nice and relaxed, we wandered over to a temple. The hard thing about language barriers is that we could not tell you which temples we made it to, since we can’t read any of the signs. But enjoy the pictures of the beautiful, unnamed temple.

Thai architecture is so unique and ornate. We have had so much fun comparing the temples in each city as we visit

After the temple, a cute pink cafe caught our eye. They were serving what looked like ice cream the size of me. So we ordered our $1.5 ice cream craziness and sat down and waited in the pink paradise.

And let me tell you, our ice cream was worth the wait.

Basically all day we were making our way to the east gate so we could go to the night bizarre. After our ice cream we were prepared to go that way. We stopped at a few stores and then found our way there. It was so crazy and full of life. We had so much fun looking through all the stalls and wandering around.

After dinner though, we did the most adventurous thing of the day. I convinced Jon, then haggled down the lady that owned the spa, and we got our feet cleaned by fish! Enjoy this picture of Jon and I being eaten alive by baby fish.

We got down and needed to get a ride home. We pulled over a tuk tuk driver and negotiated our fare. We even convinced him to take our picture in the back.

I can safely say that each city we stay in I fall more in love with Thailand. Tomorrow we see the elephants, so drop by in a few days to see our pictures with the elephants!
