All you need in Bangkok is a nice temple, some flowy skirts, and lots of Instagram captions.
We have had a good few days in Bangkok to end our first trip here (we will be back for just a day in a few weeks on our way home). We have sweated a ton, laid in bed a lot, and raced with some pretty gnarly storms!

We spent the morning this day finding our way to Wat Arun (temple of dawn). We knew this was one of the less touristy temples, but still one of the most beautiful temples, so it was on our bucket list. We jumped on the BTS and hopped off, following some limited Pinterest directions. We made our way to the piers to jump on a boat toward the temple. I think we might have overpaid for our boat ride, but we didn’t pay more than $1 a ticket, so you gotta just let it go sometimes.

Not only is this temple absolutely beautiful designed architecturally, but the small details were just as stunning. We found the pier to get off at and managed to find the place to buy our tickets and then went in and wandered around. The detail work all along the walls is so intricate and makes for a nice Instagram post. And we weren’t the only ones who thought so, because every person there was trying to get the perfect picture.

After we had sufficiently explored the temple grounds, Jon convinced me that we needed to get a coconut. So we splurged a little ($1.50) and got him a coconut.

We went and sat down to watch some people and enjoy the coconut, when we noticed someone was buying food to feed the fish. Jon sent me up to get the fish food, but I hadn’t been paying attention. I paid about 20 cents and food started shooting out of this machine. I didn’t realize you needed a bucket to catch all the fish food. So, while I tried to catch the fish food with my hands Jon ran and grabbed me a bucket. Here is the amount of fish food that we ended up with, even with the casualties from my errors.

When we went over to feed the fish, Jon’s attention was grabbed my the pigeons. He decided that the food was now bird food.

I married a bird guy, what can I say.

We laid in bed all day. We got out of bed, walked across the street, ate pad thai, and went back to binge watching tv. We have no regrets.

A friend of mine who had spent some time in Bangkok recommended an app that is sort of like Groupon for Thailand, KKday, so we thought we’d give it a try. We booked a trip to the floating markets (they are far out of Bangkok) with transportation included. We had to no idea what to expect, but were up and ready to go by 6:45 am.
When we showed up at the meet up spot we were greeted by a friendly woman who introduced us to the other people on our tour group and the driver. She was our tour guide for the day, Millie, and told us that she was half Chinese, half Thai and grew up in Thailand. She had so much information and was such a blessing today.
We started our trip out driving two hours to the floating markets. When we got there we were thrown into a little 6 person boat and taken through the canals of markets.

It was an absolutely crazy experience. We were so mesmerized everything and anything we saw. The vendors sit on their floating shops and these boats drive through and everyone buys from their boats. We were then dropped off at the van and we drove out to a temple on the outskirts of this market. It is the only temple in Thailand with a Buddha statue that has a smile!

This temple is covered by a tree and there are branches covering everything but the door and the windows. Our tour guide showed us where there was Thai herbal tea that every morning was brewed by the monks who live at the temple. It is believed to help with illness and pains. We both tried it, but it is definitely my favorite tea. Jon really liked it though!
Our last stop for the day was at Maeklong Train Market. This market was something that I had read about before we came to Bangkok. Every day the vendors put all their stuff out on the side of the railroad tracks and sell to people walking down the tracks. About four or five times a day, the train comes down this alley and all the vendors move their stuff and the tourists get as close to the edge as they can. The train comes through a couple centimeters away from everyone in the market and it is utter madness.
The market, while being super unique, was actually kind of a hot mess. It is a small, crowded space and is actually a fish market! That means lots of dead fish, out in the open, in that small space. It was a cool experience but we were glad we didn’t have much time there.

We leave Bangkok tomorrow to go to Phuket! It’s been a really good week here and we are so thankful for the beautiful weather! This morning it poured and stormed until we got to our location and started storming on our way home! It’s been a total blessing that we haven’t gotten poured on!
